Tony was one of those people who you only come across once in your life. I worked with Tony from 2008-2012 at the King’s College post office, where he created a little family between the students, staff, and faculty who came to work and visit. He was a deeply caring and kind person (though he’d likely side smile and wave me away if I said that to his face). His humor was a buoy on a tough day and his advice was always sharp and sweet. His voice changed when he spoke of his children, and he did so vividly and with such love I felt I had met them myself. When it was slow in the office, he’d set up a chair for me and tell me to sit down and study, but I always wanted to listen to another one of his stories instead. He’d often give in, share something insightful I’d later treasure, then frown at me, point to the book in my hands and tell me to get back to reading.
Though it’s been over a decade since he was my boss, I have thought of him throughout the years with admiration, wondering how he was doing and how lucky I was to have known him. What a tremendous loss of such an extraordinary person. My deepest condolences to his family.
