Marilyn Blessing, 95, of Wilkes-Barre, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Meadows Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dallas, PA. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Harriet “Happy” and John “Morris” Williams on September 8, 1928. She was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, Class of 1946. She attended Wilkes College. She was previously employed by The Boston Store (Boscovs), and the Hallmark store in downtown Wilkes-Barre. She was a lifelong and active member of the former First Welsh Presbyterian Church and devoted much of her time over many years attending services, Bible studies, teaching vacation Bible School, and baking Welsh cookies. She was very proud of her Welsh heritage and celebrated it through the St. David’s Society. She loved attending many cultural song festivals each year. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club and watching football whenever she could. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all she knew, always offering a kind word, gentle advice, or an empathetic ear. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Blessing, on December 23, 1984, and brother Carver Williams and sister-in-law, Kay Williams. She is survived by her children, Ruth Weiscarger and her husband, Joseph, Plains; Neil Blessing, Stillwater; Mark Blessing and his wife, Wanda, Wilkes-Barre, and Lisa Borchert and her husband, Kirk, Shavertown; grandchildren Eric Weiscarger and his wife, Devin, Brian Weiscarger, Megan Harcarick and her husband, Kevin, Daniel Blessing and his wife, Alyssa, Rhiannon Borchert, and A.J. Borchert; great grandchildren, Maci and Carli; sister, Esther Lueder and her husband, Walter, Illinois; brother, Kenneth Williams, and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Marilyn’s Pastor, Rev. Adam Demetros, will officiate. Private interment will be in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, 2 Lockhart Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
